Magellan Midstream Spartanburg l Truck to Tank

Project Scope

Spartanburg Truck to Tank project was planned to provide a single truck location for product trucks to offload medium to the facility tanks. However, due to the confined space there were not many options for locations to install this operation. The project combined adding the offload location with the existing truck staging for the rack to the facility previously using an offsite staging location and having to radio in the trucks as space came available. Excellence Engineering provided a truck turn analysis to configure an entrance and driveway for the project, existing site equipment and fence plans and a layout for the staging area for the existing truck rack. Working through design issues Excellence was able to develop a drive path that would include two offload locations and provide staging for the existing truck rack that would accommodate three trucks. Multiple discussions were conducted with the city to receive approval for a new road access point. The design also had to meet requirements to get approval from a local company for right of way crossing.

Notable Accomplishments & Challenges

  • Limited real estate, wide truck turn radius and grade constraints required uncommon automated gate design.
