Magellan Midstream Partners Greensboro ll Phase l & ll

Project Scope

Magellan Midstream initiated the Greensboro Bullet to Tank project to increase facility blending capabilities. The blending rate for Phase I was increased by upgrading the injection system upstream of the existing Tank manifold. A new vertical can blending pump with a larger diameter pump discharge and recirculation piping were added to accommodate the increased demands. A new meter and control valve were added to accommodate a variety of new blend rates. Phase II of the project added new piping to the tank farm to add blending capabilities to existing tanks.

Notable Accomplishments & Challenges

  • Magellan intended to upgrade an existing can pump to meet the new demand. After removing the pump, it was discovered the pump could not be upgraded due to a unique suction head configuration. Excellence coordinated with the pump vendor and field technicians to facilitate the design and installation of a new pump to fit the existing dry can and foundation.
